HISTORY
Kingsbarns derives its name from its historical use as a grain store by the ancient Kings of Scotland.

With an ambient climate, the south east coast of Fife is a productive crop growing area, and between the 11th and 16th centuries grain was stored in Kingsbarns.

From here, the grain was transported to the monarchy at the Royal Castle in Crail, Falkland Palace, or to Edinburgh. And so this village, was quite literally the ‘Kings Barns’.
The Kingsbarns Inn, itself centuries old, it’s an example of living history in our ancient village. One that’s alive and well, and to this day, serving its community.
In response to overwhelming local support, the Kingsbarns Community Development Trust initiated a community buyout of The Inn at Kingsbarns in 2022. Following a successful fundraising campaign, The Inn at Kingsbarns was secured for community ownership in June 2024, with the day to day running of The Inn being overseen by the Kingsbarns Community Benefit Society.

OUR GOALS
With the Inn at the heart of the village, it has immense potential to unite and provide for its community. Already, many gather within its restaurant and bar for their regular catchups, and its rooms provide space for visitors to stay.

Plans are underway to add a new shop and cafe to the Inn, to cater for the needs of locals and visitors alike.
